Who Invented The Etch A Sketch ?
The Etch A Sketch was invented in 1955 by André Cassagnes, a French electrical technician who discovered that aluminum powder could be manipulated to create images on a screen. Originally called “L’Écran Magique” (The Magic Screen), it was later acquired by the Ohio Art Company and rebranded as Etch A Sketch. Launched in 1960, the toy became an instant hit, selling over 600,000 units during its first Christmas season. Its design features a red frame, gray screen, and two white knobs that control a stylus inside, which scrapes aluminum powder to draw lines. Shaking the toy redistributes the powder, “erasing” the image.
